Inspiration is powerful when it comes to achieving something valuable in our life. Even a tiny ray of inspired thought leads us to a path to do something bigger in life. We all have our sources of inspiration, whether they are our loved ones, our favorite authors, or nature. We need to keep ourselves inspired as it serves us to keep ideas flowing.

But it is not easy to get inspired always. Sometimes we have to follow our routine and keep going, but how long can we walk when the road becomes dark enough without inspiration. It gives us a halt which we can take for a while but not forever.

You can take the 30-day writing challenge to become a better version of yourself.

How to gain inspiration for writing

  • Travel

Traveling is one of the most effective ways to gain inspiration for writing. Be a traveler, not a tourist, and get into the details of your surroundings. Notice! Yes, try noticing everything around you. That way, you will get a rush of ideas which you can note in your journal as you move ahead. At the end of the day, when you reflect upon the experience you had that particular day when you tried to notice, you will be amazed how it adds enthusiasm to your goals.

Talk to the people you meet on the way. Trying to know their story, you never know even the simple lives of people around you moves you from within to write and express. Travel gives you different kinds of experiences. As you get into problems and solve them on your own, have meaningful conversations with new people, try new adventures, you come back with a spark within yourself that helps you create unique stories as every person goes through unique experiences. Go for that trek you always wanted, and reach the summit to mark a victory. Travel helps you gain perspectives to see things, people, differently around you.

  • Read books

Read the stories of your favorite authors and try to understand and critically analyze them. Try to read their biographies. That can help you know about their life and what made them a writer and why they write the way they do. This way, you can get your share of inspiration and start. Their lives, routines, habits, thoughts are all inspiration.

Read the genres you want to write in. By doing it, you learn how you can create a story with that genre — the plot, characters, storyline, and climax.

It can help you find your way of writing and lets you ask questions to yourself.
Why do you want to become a writer?
What do you want to write?
How is it helping others?
Is your purpose confined to yourself?
Can you inspire others with your work?

Take a pause, and think about it for a while. It may not be easy to conclude, but gradually you will notice, your mind will lead you to all the answers you have been seeking. You need to seek.

  • Quality time with Family

Family is a powerhouse of inspiration. We all have grown up listening to the stories that our parents and grandparents told us. The life experiences which are parents share with us all count immensely for inspiration.

Even the celebrations and mournings all add up to give us new ideas. Our family means a lot to us, and some members of the family are very close to us than the rest. The relationships you have with them, the ups and downs you share with them, can help gain valuable inspiration.

Spend time with family, and you will always be thankful to them for everything they gave you. That old house where you grew up and left behind, the swings in the nearest park where you take your kids, the hardships you and your family went through, the dinner you cooked together, and the list can go on for a long time. Even the negative aspects will inspire you to write the most coveted stories you could have ever imagined. Sorrow and Happiness go hand in hand. Let each of them take you higher in your pursuit rather than throwing you out of the trail.

  • Photographs

That shot reminds you of something funny or sad. It all counts to help you create a new story that comes out of that photograph. We take lots of photos, and sometimes around a quiet night and solitude, we look into those pictures years later and think about it. Either it brings a smile on our face remembering that incident or brings tears thinking about that person who is no longer with us.

Photographs are a powerful means to ignite strong emotions, that can help you a long way in getting started over a new plot. Look at the photographs — old and new and focus on them and the incidents, people, and purpose behind those photographs. You can also use it to create a new world of imagination. Get your creativity at its peak.

  • Social Media

Next time you look into a quote, re-read it. It might inspire you. We spend a considerable amount of time on social media, which we should not. But things aside, when you do visit your social media platforms to look into what’s happening in others’ life or posting about what is going on in your life, take a critical look at those aspects that will help you in keeping yourself inspired.

You get to see lots of meaningful stories — people starting their own business at 40, people achieving commendable things at 20, people completing their post-graduation, and the list goes on of the positive aspects of life. You get to see the positive side of life, and you need to use this to give you that pinch of excitement to start something of your own. Spin a new story around something that strikes you. If you feel laid back, somebody else’s achievements should serve a purpose to lift your spirits and not make it low by comparing that your life may not be as exciting as others. Use the stories of others’ life as an inspiration to create something new and valuable in your own life.

  • Pinterest

Pinterest is an incredible platform when it comes to ideas. You can get enormous inspiration from those visuals you come across while scrolling on Pinterest. You can search for a topic of your interest, and you will be amazed to see the results. It gives you a creative rush in your mind to get started on that pending story you have been thinking about completing.

It is a platform where everyone shares their work, and you get to share yours too. You can go through the visuals and read their content that may help you understand your queries. It gives you ideas to show your creativity and express yourself.

  • Look into yourself

When we seek answers and inspiration, we must look within. We have all the answers to the questions that keep us awake all our life. You are a great source of inspiration for yourself. Reflect and look into your life. How was your life? Was it good or bad? Was it meaningful or just routine?

Are you disciplined enough to follow your dreams? Once you take the pledge to write, start writing. The only way to break the halt is to keep going in the dark to find the spark of light. You may fail, but you will be able to inspire others to get up with your story.
